The Modern Ayurvedic Cookbook: Healthful, Healing Recipes for Life Taschenbuch – 30. Dezember 2006
Ayurveda is a holistic healing tradition from India whose history is linked to the development of yoga. It is an ancient system in which physical and spiritual well-being comes from a number of sources, including a healthful diet based on one&;s individual constitution.
Ayurveda is about achieving a physical and spiritual balance through a number of means, including yoga, aromatherapy, and diet. This all-vegetarian cookbook based on Ayurvedic traditions features delectable and nutritious recipes that appeal to particular doshas, which are one&;s personal constitution based on physical and mental characteristics: fire (pitta), air (vata), and earth (kapha). (The book includes a dosha questionnaire so readers can determine their own.) And while the recipes are authentically Ayurvedic, they feature easy-to-find ingredients and modern-day cooking methods appropriate for busy schedules.
The book also includes yoga postures, cleansing programs, and information on aromatherapy, color therapy, and Abhyanga massage. There are also suggested meat substitutions for non-vegetarians. (Ayurveda is not exclusively vegetarian, although this book is.)
Written with both converts and beginners in mind, The Modern Ayurvedic Cookbook is a twenty-first-century approach to a five-thousand-year-old tradition that will restore your health, energy, and sense of well-being.
Two-color throughout.

5,0 von 5 Sternen Excellent book!
I have only recently become familiar with Auyrveda. I discovered it after years of stress at work and in peronal life that had damaged my health. Cooking according to Ayurveda seemed time consuming and complicated to me on the first sight (I had looked in a few other books). However, this book changed my view on that! The book contains very easy recipies. And they can nicely be combined with our ''regular'' food for family dinners since not everybody in my family is as fond on Auyrveda as I am (but that is a matter of time, I hope!). The products required for the recipies is usually the regular stuff available at the supermarkt or health store. I like to play with spices according to the book. The use of the exotic (for me) spices I have learned form this book. And finally, the pictograms showing the impact of the recipe on the three doshas is a great help in chosing a dish and that was also the reason I chose this book.
I recommend this book to everybody willing to try vegetarian Auyrvedic cooking!

5,0 von 5 Sternen Excellent!
I started eating Ayurvedically last year and wanted some recipes. I love to cook but wanted guidance. Two other cookbooks I got, both Ayurvedic, didn't work well for me. The recipes seemed straight out of old India with a lot of difficult to get ingredients here in the rural US where I live. And I just didn't feel like i could make the food mine.
But The Modern Ayurvedic Cookbook does just that - makes me feel like I can eat ayurvedically every day without taking on a different cultures' diet. Don't get me wrong - many of the dishes are Indian food, but work with lots of fresh ingredients, even using tofu. I just love using this book.
